Native American Art to Wear
Lot 70:
Description
This very large basket, Circa 1890, height 12″ x 75″ circumference, opening 16″ diameter features a bold, striking geometric design and includes the use of the yucca plant which produces the brick red color used sparingly by the Apache making this amazing basket even more collectible. Of all the baskets in the Southwest region the early three run coiled Apache baskets are the most collectible. The plant materials they used are Willow Devil’s Claw and Yucca Root. Made on a three rod foundation makes the baskets tight stiff and sturdy with no bend and yield rounded well-defined coils that stand out.
